"I
would like to thank the staff at EH-Port Huron for the wonderful
care they gave me during my brief stay. The nurses, aides and
volunteers were all kind and caring. I was apprehensive about being
in a nursing home, but they made me feel at ease. Thank you very
much."
A.B.,
Resident, EH-Port Huron
What's
a "thank you" worth? How does one quantify the value of
the service Evangelical Homes of Michigan gives to residents, their
families and the larger community? While there is no simple way to
answer these questions, the impact of our ministry is reflected in a
few important statistics.
In the fiscal year just ended, Evangelical provided more than
204,000 days of care to nearly 1,360 individuals in its independent
senior living apartments, assisted living programs, nursing care
facilities, federally subsidized senior apartments and homes for
adults with developmental disabilities. Each individual served in
Evangelical's programs has family and friends who count on it to
provide the best of care. Evangelical reached out to more than 9,500
residents and members of their families last year.
Evangelical Homes employed more than 900 individuals and contracted
for the services of hundreds of others paying more than $27 million
in wages and benefits in the past year. Those individuals in turn
spent their wages to benefit themselves and their families creating
employment opportunities for thousands of others.
Evangelical provided training for direct care
staff and helped them obtain certification in health care
professions. Employees received tuition assistance totaling $24,300 to advance their college educations. Evangelical
Homes opened its facilities to interns who gained
needed work experience in their fields, including nurses, social
workers and registered dietitians..
"And
thanks to persons unknown who maintain a cheerful building filled
with an abundance of natural light and, though often a thankless
duty, maintain rooms and assure cleanliness. Thank you very much for
the many services you so skillfully provide in such a thoughtful
way."
J.E.,
Family Member,EH-Port Huron
What's
a "thank you" worth? Evangelical knows that an attractive,
well-maintained, clean facility is important to residents and
families. Their surroundings can help them feel comfortable and at
ease. In the past year, Evangelical invested nearly $1.5 million to
maintain and improve its facilities.
Evangelical Homes of Michigan reaches out to the communities it
serves by supporting a wide variety of community organizations. In
addition to providing more than $1.2 million of unreimbursed charity
care, Evangelical contributed more than $66,150 of financial
support, material support and servant leadership to charities and
community, church related and elder care organizations. Some of the
organizations benefiting from Evangelical's support and involvement
are listed in the adjacent box.
What's a "thank you worth?" It's impossible to say, but it
sure feels good to hear it.
