Evangelical Homes of Michigan is deeply committed to faithfulness
in the spirit, heritage and traditions of the Christian community.
EHM is related to the United Church of Christ. The United Church
of Christ came into being in 1957 with the union of two Protestant
denominations: the Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational
Christian Churches. Each of these was, in turn, the result of a
union of two earlier denominations. Through these denominations,
the United Church of Christ lays claim to a rich and diverse history.
Its history includes the Pilgrims of Plymouth Plantation, German
Evangelical pastors in Missouri, German settlers in Pennsylvania
who founded Reformed Churches and Christian Churches that sprang
up in response to the theological and organizational rigidity of
several denominations.
The United Church of Christ treasures the classical creeds of the
Christian faith but does not use these creeds as a test of faith.
Rather, these creeds are valued as authentic testimonies of faith.
Individual members of the UCC are free to believe and act in accordance
with their own perception of God's will for their lives. Each congregation
or local church is free to act in accordance with the collective
decisions of its members guided by the working of the Spirit and
the light of the Scriptures.
Based on its unique history in American religious life and its theology,
the United Church of Christ has become an inclusive church that
welcomes Christians as they ask the difficult questions of faith
and seek powerful answers to guide them as they live their faith
in modern times.
